Leather

There is little information about leather factories working at the beginning of the 20th century. Several leather factories were listed in Riga, namely, factories owned by Luis Zietemann, L. Thies, Juliuss Pruffert, Oskar Brieger, S. Dolgov and the American-Baltic company. Yet it is impossible to state precisely what was produced in these factories as no research has been carried out. Most of the leather-bound albums may actually have been produced by local craftsmen. During the restoration of the leather-bound album which is in the museum collection, the name of its producer – Friedrich Eduard Preuk – was also discovered. He used to own a company in Jāņa iela. All the details of this album bespeak the high quality of leather products made in Riga. A significant part of the collection is made up of leather-bound albums which often were used as interior elements. They stand out with their high quality and richly decorated covers.
