On 15 March 2026 at 10:30 and 13:00, the Museum “Riga Art Nouveau Centre” invites families with children to the monthly event “Children’s Morning with Cat Albert at the Riga Art Nouveau Centre.”
The Children’s Morning is designed as an interactive and educational activity for preschool and primary school children together with their families, encouraging participants to think about how the development of technology has influenced everyday life and communication culture. This time the event will focus on historic telephones and the history of communication, offering children the opportunity to discover how people communicated before the era of mobile phones and the internet.
During the event, participants will join a guided tour of the museum and the exhibition “Telephones in the Art Nouveau Era.” Together with Cat Albert, children will be able to see historic wall and desk telephones as well as an early telephone directory from the collection of collector Valdis Hofmarks. Children will learn how the first telephones worked, how calls were connected by telephone operators, and how telephone design and technology changed throughout the 20th century.
The programme will also include hands-on activities for different age groups. Participants will be able to create their own simple telephone and try communicating with it, as well as take part in games and role-playing activities where children can step into the role of a telephone operator and participate in the game “Chinese Whispers.”
The session at 10:30 is intended for preschool children, while the 13:00 session is designed for school-age children.
