From June 12 till June 14th, the representatives of The Museum “Riga Art Nouveau Centre” of the Association of Culture Institutions of Riga City Council are participating in the meeting of the Project “AN as a New EUtopia “and the opening of the exhibition "The Art Nouveau World. The Transformations of Nature" in the Aveiro Art Nouveau Museum.
The representatives of the Museum "Riga Art Nouveau Center" is taking part in a working group meeting of the Project “AN as a New EUtopia - Art Nouveau: a new EUtopia. How the past can be a bridge to a sustainable future.” In Aveiro, Portugal together with an eleven European city partners the partners are discussing the development of the educational program and interactive toolkit and the activities of the World Art Nouveau Day. Museum "Riga Art Nouveau Center" of the Association of Cultural Institutions of the Riga City Council is a Project 101131648 — AN as a New EUtopia — CREA-CULT-2023-COOP with the support of the European Union. partner and works in this Project “AN as a New Eutopia” since the beginning of 2024.
This year, when Aveiro has been chosen to be the cultural capital of Portugal, alongside modern art and cultural events, a prominent place in the program of events was allocated to the cultural and historical heritage of Art Nouveau. In the exhibition "The Art Nouveau World. The Transformations of Nature" in the Aveiro Art Nouveau Museum will exhibit objects from various European cities, inviting to get to know the diversity of Art Nouveau design. Ålesund; Aveiro; Brussels; Budapest, Darmstadt, La Chaux des Fonds, Riga, Terasa and Wisbaden, inviting you to get to know the diversity of Art Nouveau design. The exhibition exhibits four items from the collection of the "Riga Art Nouveau Center" museum, The Museum “Riga Art Nouveau Centre” in the Exhibition in Aveiro presents examples from the museum’s collection – books written and designed by notable Latvian artists of Art Nouveau time and visitors are introduced to the design of books on Art Nouveau period in Latvia. Soon, the exhibition catalog will be available to the visitors of the exhibition, where you can read additional information about the exhibited art objects, including the almanac "Zalktis" No. 4 and the magazine "Zalktis" No. 4 published in Riga in 1908 by the publishing house Zalktis, with a cover design by Jūlij Madernieks. that also Aspazija's poetry book "Spoži sapņi" (1909) and Kārlis Skalbe's poetry book "Kad ābeles zied" published by Jānis Ozols in Cēsis in 1905 with a cover design by Jānis Roze. The opening took place on June 12, 2024, at the Aveiro Art Nouveau Museum, as part of the World Art Nouveau Day event program, which the city of Aveiro is hosting from June 8 to June 13, 2024. Director of the Museum “ Riga Art Nouveau Center” Agrita Tipāne and project manager Iveta Sproģe participated in the festive event. At the opening ceremony, the Mayor of Aveiro City, Jose Ribau Esteves, the head of the RANN coordination office, Erika Giuliani, and the curator of the exhibition, Andreia Lorenzo from the Aveiro City Museum, gave a speech.
Exhibition "World of Art Nouveau. "The Art Nouveau World. The Transformation of Nature" will be open at the Art Nouveau Museum of Aveiro until September 22, 2024.
