Edmunds fon Trompovskis

March 28, 1851, Riga – January 19, 1919, Riga

An architect and civil engineer. He studied engineering and architecture at RPI. Between 1878 and 1879 he had his own architectural practice in Province of Vitebsk, in Russia. In 1880, he opened his office in Riga. Trompowsky also worked as an appraiser for several insurance companies. He devised urban development plans for several districts of Riga. More than 100 multi-storey residential, public and industrial buildings were built to his designs in Riga and in other cities of Latvia. He preferred the eclectic style (Neo-Renaissance, Neo-Gothic), and in the 1900s – a rationalist trend of Art Nouveau as well.
