Architect: Eižens Laube
It was built as Mutual Credit Cooperative Bank for Merchants and Craftsmen. Apartments were located on the top floors. Perpendicular Art Nouveau architecture of the building is associated with a Gothic image. Top floors of the façades have dark finish, whereas, the façades of the lower floors are clad with a polished labradorite. Previously, a wooden building was located on this plot of land. Composer Richard Wagner lived in this building from 1837 until 1839. A stained glass honouring him is located in the staircase (restored in 2001). Currently, various offices are located in the building. The left wing at Dzirnavu iela is lower in conformity with the requirements of building regulations in Riga: maximum height up to the cornice was 21.3 m (70 feet), but the height could not exceed the width of the nearby street. In the case of corner buildings, the height of the façade that corresponded to the widest street could also be retained in the façade that faced the narrower street, though, the height of this façade could not exceed the double width of the narrower street.
