Stabu iela 19 (1908.)

Architect: Jānis Alksnis

Apartment house – one of the most outstanding examples of Perpendicular Art Nouveau of early 20th century. The building belonged to the author of the project architect Jānis Alksnis. The façade stands out due to precise structure of the composition, elegant proportions and exquisite graphical representation of ornamental reliefs. In 1987 the building was totally burned. It had been restored from 1997 to 1999 by retaining its spatial structure and displacement of the middle wing by a half-level in relation to the street wing and the distal wing in the yard, thus allowing to use the staircase in a rational manner. The initial layout has been changed by building in up-to-date lifts and small apartments. These historical elements of the façade have been restored in an accurate manner. Solely friezes located beneath reliefs of gables adorned with Latvian ethnographic ornaments have not been restored.
