Blaumaņa iela 3 (1911.)

Architect: Jānis Alksnis

The two houses - Blaumaņa iela 3 and Blaumaņa iela 5 - form a magnificent ensemble attesting the architect's ingenuity in varying for mal elements. Straight lines and forms prevail on this façade as well. The configuration of the bay windows and the profiles of the influence of National Romanticism and Neo-Classicism can be discerned. In the façade finish of the building at Blaumaņa iela 3 architect has used rounded-off soft forms such as semicircular bay windows and undulating gables. Tall, rounded mullions divide the aper tures and intersect the decorative reliefs that completely cover the spandrels. The reliefs display interwoven volutes, circles and floram motifs. 1911, the year thease houses were built, is uniquely productive in the artchitect’s career: no less 40 construction projects of varying scale were approved the year.
