The accomplishments of the architect Jānis Alksnis truly inspire awe and admiration – he has provided the city of Riga with about 130 multi-storey stonework buildings as well as a whole bunch of wooden buildings. But quantity is not of the greatest importance here. The overwhelming majority of work by Jānis Alksnis is distinguished for its high artistic value and emotional expression, and a great deal of his buildings belong to the most beautiful houses in the centre of Riga, and not just the centre.
