Architect: Eižens Laube
One of the symbols of architecture of early 20th century, an outstanding monument of National Romanticism. The building belonged to lawyer and public worker, the head of Riga Andrejs Krastkalns. The building has a dynamic massing with several avant-corpses, bay windows arranged at different levels, steep and emphasised roof planes, high gables and a cone-shaped corner accent. The gable on Brīvības iela is adorned with a wooden pediment resembling elements of traditional wooden architecture. The gable at Lāčplēša iela is decorated with ornamental relief with freely stylised ethnographic motifs. Similar reliefs arranged in symmetrical composition fill in several spandrels of both façades. The building was restored in 2001 by building an annex to the main building in the yard to expand the shop. Shops are also located on the second floor, instead of apartments.
